Paul Scanlon was in the team that started the 1971 season. Described as the Aussie heart
throb, we wondered if he would charm the fans or not. The answer was to be... Not! Paul's
high point was a six point haul at Berwick's Sheilfield Park. He rode in four meetings for the
newly formed Sunderland âStarsâ, for an average of 3.00 pts.
He also rode in five Challenge matches at the start of the season, but six points remained
his highest score for the Stars, and by early May he was gone.
